С�� to host free movie nights for students as part of Black History Month

С��sity students can enjoy five free movies today [Feb. 24], Friday [Feb. 27] and Saturday [Feb. 28] as part of Black History Month.

All five films will be shown in Colvard Student Union’s Fowlkes Auditorium. Admission is free, and free food and popcorn will be provided.

The event begins 6 p.m. today with a showing of “The Woman King,” a 2022 fictionalized drama about the all-female Agoje tribe in Africa starring Viola Davis.

The series wraps this weekend with a double feature each night. The Feb. 27 twin viewing kicks off at 5:45 p.m. with Pixar’s animated comedy “Soul” and wraps at 7:30 p.m. with “Nope,” director Jordan Peele’s award-winning science fiction horror film.

“Sinner’s,” director Ryan Coogler’s acclaimed film set in the Mississippi Delta, opens the Feb. 28 double feature at 5:10 p.m. The series wraps at 7:30 p.m. with a showing of “Moonlight,” Barry Jenkins’ 2016 Academy Award-winning coming-of-age drama.

The film series is sponsored by С��’s African American Studies; Center for Student Activities; Department of Communication, Media and Theatre; Department of English; Gender Studies Program; and Judy and Bobby Shackouls Honors College.
